Plan a website migration without the guesswork

Prepare, copy, test and switch—with a clear fallback at every stage.

Make an inventory

List the website, database, scheduled jobs, email and DNS records. Confirm the people who can authorise changes and the access each step requires.

Take a complete backup

Keep copies of application files and the database before the move. Record configuration details needed to restore the site. Avoid sending account passwords in ordinary enquiry messages.

Test the new environment

Check pages, images, login, forms and integrations before changing DNS. For an online store, plan how orders and other changing data will be handled during the transition.

Switch and verify

Agree the change window and update only the required DNS records. DNS caching can mean visitors reach different environments during the transition. Keep a rollback plan available.

Retire the old service carefully

After the website, email and important integrations have been checked, confirm when the old hosting can be closed. Retain the backups and handover notes.
